Nursery Toys

Well I finally finished playing with my toys. Actually it did take me quite awhile to make these but I am fairly pleased with how they turned out. My biggest problem is gluing as I am too impatient to wait till it dries and so I end up with more glue on my fingers than on the item I'm glueing. I made everything except the train and the teddy bears. They came from my stash of mixed objects that I am sure every crafter collects. The toy box was a printie.

Most of the materials to make the toys also came from my stash or my junk bin. I save and collect everything and even my family members ask before they throw anything in the garbage. It is surprising what miniatures you can make from trash. I will take apart lighters to find out what little items are inside and found the little wheels are perfect for fishing rod reels.

One of my childrens' first toys was the ring stacker. This was one that even babies loved because they could bite on the rings. So it was a necessary toy for my nursery. I bought a box of model magic clay that had the four different colours and mixed the colours to give me more varieties. I made the rings in all different sizes and thicknesses as I was not sure what I needed. Then I had to try and get the right graduation of sizes to make a tower. The top of the stack is the top of a fancy toothpick.

I had some white clay left over so I was playing with several items. I made a snowman and then I made a little flopped eared bunny. I thought he would make a nice pull toy. The base was a scrap of wood and the wheels were also from the model magic clay.

The Corn Popper toy was another of my children's favorite toys and it is still popular today with my grandchildren so I had to have one of those for the nursery. It was made with the top of a lipstick sample and beads and a toothpick.
Spinning tops were also a favorite toy and I finally found a tut on how to make them with beads and fancy toothpicks.

A wagon of blocks is another child toy that is in many nurseries so that was next. I had a key chain with white blocks on it so I painted them in different colours and made a wagon from small pieces of balsa wood. The wheels are beads. The other block was little buttons that I glued together.
The next toy is one you find in almost every waiting room to keep children interested. I made it with coloured paper clips, beads and a piece of wood.

And every nursery has at least one rattle so I made a rattle from the top of a fancy toothpick and two little "eyes" glued together.

  1. You are much more patient than I am - I don't know that I could do the detail work you do. My children had the stacked rings when they were little. Thanks for visiting - I have never been into football, but it does not bother me when others are enjoying it around me. Have a great week.
