Dry Fit and Bedroom Floors

I did a dry fit of the house to make sure that it would all fit together okay. A lot of the slots had paint in them so I had to sand a lot in order for the pieces to fit together. Then I pulled out some of the scrapbooking paper I had to see if David and Julie liked any of it for wall paper. They really did not like any of it. I guess I am going to have to find some wallpaper somewhere else.

I started marking the bedroom floors. The floors on the main level are wider planks but I wanted the narrow hardware strips for the bedrooms. I found a square dowel that was just the size I wanted and I started to draw the lines.
Here is the finished floor all stained and varnished. The varnish is not quite dry yet so you can still see some milky areas where it is still wet.

I placed the one floor over the other to show the difference. The dye cut for the top floor goes the opposite way of the bottom floor and when I am drawing the lines, I always go the same way as the grain in the wood. So the flooring is running the opposite way but that is okay as it is on different floors.
This is a closer look at the grain in the floors and I am quite pleased at how they turned out.
I will be covering the bathroom and kitchen areas with tile of some kind and will put rugs in some rooms. I am not sure what I will put on the third floor but I think I should also do the hardwood for that floor first. I have not decided what rooms I am putting up there but I can always cover the hardwood look if I want it to be just an attic.

  1. I love the floors in this house- you are doing such a great job on them Doreen. I think it's interesting for the floorboards to run different ways on different floors- I've done that in one of my houses too. Do you have plans for inhabitants of this house?

  2. No not yet. I will have to see how it looks once it is finished to see which residents will fit it best. I also do not have much furniture or stuff to put in the house. So everthing is uncertain right now.

  4. I'm enjoying the process, Doreen. I remember before your move, you showed us a group of dolls whom you said had come to live with you. I have remained curious as to their future role in your mini world. I love your floors.
