This porch was really hard to do and took me a long time as I had to do one section at a time. First the roof was angled and really had no hold on the wall. Then the railing sections did not meet properly with the roof. I had to take the sections apart a few times to adjust the size and angle.
But it finally was complete and David and Julie are quite happy with it.
Now I have to do the roof but I am waiting for the shingles. I have ordered them but it will take awhile before I get them and then they will all have to be painted a dark blue. All 2,500 of them. So it will be awhile.
Meanwhile I will go back to work on the chimney. I have a lot of egg cartons to cut up as I am also going to put stone work around the foundation of the house.

Doreen, it's looking just wonderful! (I'm with Kim about the shingling job though!)
ReplyDeleteThanks everyone. I am not looking forward to the shingling but my husband will help me paint them. He painted most of the ones on my other house and I glued them on.
ReplyDeleteI love this house it has such a beautiful shape. I don't mind putting the shingling on it's all the painting that drive me crazy.
ReplyDeleteDoreen, I have no problem with painting shingles. Here is what I do. And that goes for anything small that I need to paint. I have plastic place mats that I purchased to work on. I take masking tape and cut long strips the size of the width of the mat. I put them on the mat sticky side up. I cut two small pieces of tape and position them at the end of each strip to keep them in place. I do that until the mat is covered with strips of masking tape. Of course, I allow enough room between the strips for the length of the shingles. Then I put as many shingles I can on the sticky side of the tape and I paint them. It goes really fast. You can do that with anything small that you need to paint. When you're finished with one batch, most of the time you don't even need to replace the strips. I got that from Casey. If you do that, you won't mind painting small pieces anymore.
ReplyDeleteThat is a fantastic idea and so simple to do. Now I just have to wait until the shingles get here. Thanks for the idea.
ReplyDeleteI like this house. The porch is perfect.
